Ships in an aluminum bottle with a plastic pump. When you’re running low, order a new bottle here, but select “Refill.” We’ll ship your new bottle without a pump, and include a return label for your old bottle so you can send it back at no cost. Transfer your pump to the new bottle, pack the empty bottle in the box, and send it back to us. We’ll sanitize and reuse the bottle.

Give it time
This shampoo was exactly what I was looking for. It cleans without stripping the hair's natural oils, has left my hair feeling healthier than it ever has, AND I can now go longer between washes. Having said that, I almost gave up on it multiple times in the first month because there's definitely an adjustment period. My hair type: Fine, straight, dark brown hair that tends toward being oily. I had carefully trained it to wash every other day without it looking too bad on the second day, but by the third day my hair was always a grease bomb. I rarely used conditioner because it just weighed it down. The transition: My hair definitely got more greasy before it got better. Reading the other long review below mine really helped me. Some other tips -- 1) Apply the shampoo in small pumps to different areas of your scalp. Because it doesn't lather much, it's hard to spread it around if you put it all in one spot initially. 2) Massage into your scalp really well. 3) Rinse well. The first few times I used this I noticed my hair still felt soapy/slippery when I was towel drying it. Even though it doesn't really suds up, it does take a little extra time to rinse. Now: For the first time in my life, I am waking up on day 3, and thinking that my hair still doesn't look too greasy. It feels soft and healthy after each wash, and doesn't get the rebound greasiness that it used to get with regular shampoo. I don't use the conditioner, but with my hair type I still don't feel like I need it.
Love love love the scent! Works really well- has a great lather.
Review after 2 months
I wanted to wait for a while to review this shampoo because I wanted to make sure I was accurately reviewing its effect on my hair. I've been using exclusively this shampoo (and conditioner) for two months now and I'm happy to say that while it's different than what you would buy in a standard store, it's equally as effective and my hair is healthy and happy! My Boyfriend and I both use this shampoo despite having wildly different hair types, his is curly and thick (BTW, this shampoo is "Curly Girl Method" friendly) and I have a huge mass of fine straight strands. Both of our hair styles have worked well with the shampoo, although because it does not "suds up" it takes a bit more care to apply. You need to make sure you're gently massaging the shampoo onto your scalp for it to work to its full ability. His curls are loving the lack of sulfates and perfumes and my fine strands manage to not look oily for 2 days between each wash. Pretty sweet! I love the smell after application but a word of warning! The smell straight out of the jar is VERY strong, I was originally tentative when I received it because of the strong bottle scent, but after washing out it becomes much more pleasant. It definitely is NOT perfumed though, which is a good thing for me but something to be aware of before purchase. It makes you walk away from the shower smelling "clean" not "scented". Overall I'm a huge fan of the shampoo and the only thing I would change is to buy a bigger bottle if I could!
A Drop in the Ocean
Omgosh thank you so much for your thorough review of this shampoo! I'm so glad that it's working for both of you. The lack of "suds" definitely takes some getting used to, so thank you for sticking with it to give it a full review!
I have liked this shampoo a lot! It is easier to use than a shampoo bar and still gets a decent lather. Plus I love that (when I am ready) I can order the bigger bottle and get refills! I swear I had this idea a few years ago! ;)
A Drop in the Ocean
So great to hear you're loving the shampoo!

Refill > Landfill
It's easy to get your everyday essentials refilled, no matter where you live.
Here's how it works...
1. On your first order of a new product, choose the “New Bottle” or “New Jar” option.
This tells us it’s your first time purchasing this product from our online shop.
2. We’ll ship (or deliver) it to you!
If you’ve ordered something liquid (maybe shampoo or body lotion), we will include a plastic pump in your order.
3. When you’re running low, order the same product, but choose the “Refill” option.
We’ll send you another bottle or jar of your chosen product, and will include a return label in the box for your empty container. If you’ve ordered something liquid, the refill order will not include a pump.
If we're delivering your order instead of shipping, just leave your empties on your porch on delivery day (Tuesday) and we'll pick them up when we drop off your new items.
4. If you’ve ordered something liquid, transfer the pump from the old bottle to the new one.
Then place the cap from the new bottle onto the old one.
5. Pack the empty container(s) into the same box the new ones arrived in, put the return label on the box, and hand it off to USPS.
When we receive the empty containers, we will wash and sanitize them, and get them back into circulation to be used again and again.
I stumbled across A Drop in the Ocean on my quest to reduce our family's plastic use. I have a small family and live in a rural area with only a few big box stores and zero plastic recycling options. Finding plastic free items locally can be a challenge. I was thrilled to find a shop in my home state that would reuse returned glass and aluminum bottles. I'm a repeat customer as the products are excellent and the shop owner makes it super simple to return our used bottles by mail.
We ship ugly boxes
Our commitment to sustainability doesn't end when you press that checkout button.
We pack all of our orders in reused boxes and envelopes, with reused paper packaging, post-consumer recycled paper labels, and even paper tape.
You may not get an IG-worthy unboxing, but you will get the most sustainable packaging we can possibly find.
Oh and did we mention our shipping is always carbon negative?
Let's go to the real winner in my eyes. Honestly, I could have purchased this exact razor many other places, but the packaging A Drop in the Ocean uses to ship will have me coming back time and time gain.
My first purchase from them was some floss a while ago and it arrived in a reused tea box with a hand written note that was written on scrap paper. I was blown away.
I had never seen a company who claimed to be sustainable ACTUALLY prove to be sustainable through and through. The fact that every piece of the packaging was reused and minimal will have me come back over and over again. If I can purchase it here, I will purchase it here.
