* A note about rosewood: Did you know that rosewood (Aniba rosodora) is an endangered species? Yeah, we didn't either. But as of July 2020, the IUCN Red List has officially classified it as endangered, due to urban development, agriculture, and logging. But don't worry - you can still enjoy the floral, earthy delight of rosewood in our laundry detergent, because it doesn't actually contain rosewood! That's right, our rosewood natural laundry detergent is scented with a blend of essential oils to mimic the smell of rosewood, so no endangered species were harmed in the making of our detergent. Enjoy!
Add 1 tablespoon to your laundry load for regular machines, or a 1/2 tablespoon for high-efficiency machines.
Packaging + End of Life
Ships in a glass jar or a reused plastic bag. When you’re running low, order a new jar here, but select “Refill Jar” or "Refill Bag." If you order a Refill Jar, we’ll include a return label for your old jar so you can send it back at no cost. We’ll sanitize and reuse the jar.
* What's up with the plastic bag?
Our jar lids and bottle pumps come to us in plastic bags. It's one of those things that's out of our control. We've been saving these bags since we launched in 2019, trying to figure out what to do with them. In November 2021, we took to Instagram to find out how you, our EcoWarriors, would feel about using them for shipping laundry detergent. Overwhelmingly you all voted to reuse them. So we've added this as an option!
Now here's what you need to know...
- The intention behind the bags is to be for shipping only, not delivery. The bags reduce weight in shipping and therefore cut costs for both you and us. We also only have a limited amount of these bags. If you are within our delivery radius, we kindly ask that you please choose a jar option, as that is the most sustainable option for delivery.
- We will not be taking these bags back for reuse. We do not have a way to wash and sanitize them effectively.
- We will never purchase plastic bags for this purpose. If we run out, we run out. At that point, then, the only options will be the jars.
We're so grateful to have a community of EcoWarriors that values progress over perfection, and reuse over new. Thank you for helping us give these bags another life!

A perfect solution
I love ordering from ADITO! I run an environmentally friendly dog training business and I am able to use many of their products to help me stay true to my goals!
Happy subscription customer
We had already stopped using plastic jugs of liquid laundry soap a few years back, but the plastic measuring cup in each cardboard box of powdered soap made me crazy, and we couldn't recycle the paperboard container anyway. I was thrilled to find A Drop in the Ocean (bonus that they are located in our former adopted town of Tacoma), and excited to try their products specifically because of the packaging options! Now we've got a small jar of really powerful detergent that's able to handle the grandkids' grime and also my more delicate items. Smells great! No residue in washer or on clothes! Subscription makes it easy to reorder and save additional packaging. We're sold!
I have been using this detergent for over a year know. Smell is great, get clothes clean, takes up way less space in the laundry room and it last a while. I am interested in the rose wood sent. I wonder if there is sample size to try?
Love this detergent
Gets clothes clean and smells terrific without being overwhelming. A little goes a long way too.
Best detergent I've ever used
I live just outside Tacoma city limits within Local Delivery routes, so I opted for two large jars of rosewood detergent. Our entire house was uprooted for reflooring, so I was unable to do laundry for nearly a month and when it was all done, I had to wash literally every textile our family of 4+4 cats owns. It has been two months since I finished all of that, plus our regular wash cycles, plus the month's worth of laundry that I wash for a friend and his child on a regular basis--I even used this in a hand-wash cycle once when my kid wanted to wear a specific pair of socks but the washing machine was already in use, and I could physically see the dirt coming out of the fabric. After all that, the first jar of detergent still has about 1/4 of the powder left! I made the change from plastic coated pods, and will never go back, especially knowing now that those plastic coatings just get washed into our water supply. I have an He machine and didn't even know what this little blue tray was for. I even gave up using dryer sheets though we still have some left over; nothing comes out staticky in the dryer! When I finish the first jar, I have a second on standby and will return the empty for refilling when I order a replacement. I love this system, the conservation impact through donations, and that you're local! Thank you for existing!
Refill > Landfill
It's easy to get your everyday essentials refilled, no matter where you live.
Here's how it works...
1. On your first order of a new product, choose the “New Bottle” or “New Jar” option.
This tells us it’s your first time purchasing this product from our online shop.
2. We’ll ship (or deliver) it to you!
If you’ve ordered something liquid (maybe shampoo or body lotion), we will include a plastic pump in your order.
3. When you’re running low, order the same product, but choose the “Refill” option.
We’ll send you another bottle or jar of your chosen product, and will include a return label in the box for your empty container. If you’ve ordered something liquid, the refill order will not include a pump.
If we're delivering your order instead of shipping, just leave your empties on your porch on delivery day (Tuesday) and we'll pick them up when we drop off your new items.
4. If you’ve ordered something liquid, transfer the pump from the old bottle to the new one.
Then place the cap from the new bottle onto the old one.
5. Pack the empty container(s) into the same box the new ones arrived in, put the return label on the box, and hand it off to USPS.
When we receive the empty containers, we will wash and sanitize them, and get them back into circulation to be used again and again.
I stumbled across A Drop in the Ocean on my quest to reduce our family's plastic use. I have a small family and live in a rural area with only a few big box stores and zero plastic recycling options. Finding plastic free items locally can be a challenge. I was thrilled to find a shop in my home state that would reuse returned glass and aluminum bottles. I'm a repeat customer as the products are excellent and the shop owner makes it super simple to return our used bottles by mail.
We ship ugly boxes
Our commitment to sustainability doesn't end when you press that checkout button.
We pack all of our orders in reused boxes and envelopes, with reused paper packaging, post-consumer recycled paper labels, and even paper tape.
You may not get an IG-worthy unboxing, but you will get the most sustainable packaging we can possibly find.
Oh and did we mention our shipping is always carbon negative?
Let's go to the real winner in my eyes. Honestly, I could have purchased this exact razor many other places, but the packaging A Drop in the Ocean uses to ship will have me coming back time and time gain.
My first purchase from them was some floss a while ago and it arrived in a reused tea box with a hand written note that was written on scrap paper. I was blown away.
I had never seen a company who claimed to be sustainable ACTUALLY prove to be sustainable through and through. The fact that every piece of the packaging was reused and minimal will have me come back over and over again. If I can purchase it here, I will purchase it here.
